Join journalist and author Audrey Watters and blogger and API evangelist Kin Lane for an intimate discussion of what it means for creatives to carve out digital identities and take control of their own data in the age of ubiquitous proprietary tools and platforms controlled by giant social media companies.

Audrey Watters
Audrey Watters is a journalist specializing in education technology news and analysis. Although she was two chapters into her PhD dissertation, she decided to abandon academia, and she now happily fulfills the one job recommended to her by a junior high aptitude test: freelance writer. Audrey’’s work has appeared in numerous publications including Edutopia, The Atlantic, ReadWriteWeb, Inside Higher Ed, and The Huffington Post, in addition to on her own blog Hack Education. Her next two books, Teaching Machines and Reclaim Your Domain are due out later this year.

Kin Lane
Kin Lane is a unique blend of information technology, data, programming, product development, business development, sales and marketing--also known as an evangelist. A Presidential Innovation Fellow, Kin is a serial entrepreneur who has founded and contributed to numerous web development and social media strategy start-ups. He spends his days studying the business and politics of APIs, sharing insights on his blog, API Evangelist. He is the author, with Audrey Watters, of The Business of APIs.
